The Fray Jorge National Park is located in the Province of Limarí, in Ovalle. It has a surface of 9.959 hectares. It is characterized by the presence of a quaternary relict hydrophilic forest. This means that you will see a sample of how was the desert of Atacama, the most arid of the world, in the last glaciations that occurred 30.000 years ago, when the humid forest was reaching low latitudes. Fray Jorge is thus a testimony and a faithful replica of Chile's humid forests, that can only be found nowadays in the south of Chile.
You will discover a piece of humid forest, typical of the south of Chile, straight in the middle of the desert. You will also have the possibility of watching species such as the biggest hummingbird in the world, the most southern fox in the world, and other species that are endemic to Chile.
